More about Jan
I was born in Hobart, and I am the middle child of three children. I am in my early fifites, but at present feel 100 years old. I have grown to be a quieter person than I used to be.
When I finished school, I moved out of home and got a job and went to university part time and paid for myself from that day onwards. This was in the seventies.
I was the last of the generation to take their husband's name when I married. My husband and I were married for 17 years before our children materialized, so we traveled the world and started great businesses together.
I maintained my own career in the public service. I worked on third world poverty issues and children's and women's issues so I could get some connection with real lives because mine seemed so privileged at that time.
My house was full of art work and great antiques; then two boisterous boys arrived on the scene. Now my house is falling apart at the seams!!
I went to a Catholic school and had a great working class background even though my father was always the boss of his own company. All his workers were our heroes; we saw the pain and the pride of business and the shop floor. I wanted to be a doctor but did not do well enough. Instead I became an accountant in a firm that was great to me. Later I joined the public service.
My interests are our small business, children's issues (including safety and thriving) and creative pursuits. I adore my friends and like to multiply them but then have trouble fitting everything in!
I would like to write or draw or meditate more and learn gardening!. I have tried chanting and liked that very much.
