Billboard and outdoor advertising

The House Standing Committee on Social Policy and Legal Affairs is conducting an inquiry into the regulation of billboard and outdoor advertising. Submission are due early February 2011.

2020women has concerns about the lack of control of exploitative imagery used in this form of advertising and its impact on women. The images in this type of advertising are particularly offensive as billboards are large and static and provide no context other than the image being presented. The lack of diversity in the type of women shown in these advertisements is a problem. Stereotyping women as mere decoration ignores the wide range of women who are contributing to our society.
